The Library punishes most “crimes” by converting patrons into librarians or other library staff. However, what how would they be punished if they enjoyed being staff?

Like, would there be an individualized punishment?

prolly just burn 'em for like 2 mins lol. though in all seriousness it would probably suck balls to be a librarian for a long time.
so don't hurt the library. they'd hurt you a lot more and a lot worse.

I like to imagine that not all punishments are turning them into staff - that's reserved for more serious offenses. But like small shit like turning in a book late or accidentally harming a book or such stuff would net you one such individual punishment. Maybe something poetic - turn in a book late, your perception of time gets all fucked up for a while. Put a book in a spot wrong, the Library shifts around you and you have to try and find your way out. That kind of thing.

I agree with Rounderhouse, but I also think that turning offenders into staff could still work, even if they end up enjoying their Librarian duties. It'd almost be like enjoying mandatory service for redemption; if someone did something that elicited the Librarian-conversion punishment, and thus became a Librarian, it wouldn't matter if they enjoy it or not, since they're still doing service in the Library's name.

Of course, I'm sure not everyone enjoys being mute, or stationary, or insect-like…etc…
