Another really excellent, really absorbing story. The character is great (he seems very real, and entertaining as well; the details of his life we're given are just enough), and so is the setting; the mundane description is well executed, and the eerie… shifts into the far, far future / alternative universe? … are mesmerizing. The only weak point is the monster, but even it - with its human eye (eyes?) - is somewhat interesting.
