Crystalline, infinite, ceaseless
My first love.
In an existence so limited
Undulating indigo, stretching
Endlessly across a rose pink horizon
You fascinate me.
I stand at your edge
Collecting rocks
Saltwater and sea foam lapping at my ankles
The same
Back
And forth
For time immemorial.
When I was ten
Bright-eyed and pudgy
I asked my grandfather what dying felt like
The perturbed look he gave me
Taught me not to ask again
I’ve found death in those dark, murky waters
Understood through tradition and speculation
Ultimately unexplored by man
Tempestuous and destructive
Constant
Unchanging.
