This is wonderful. The dialogue with the serpent reminds me of old fairytales and the prose that comes after is absolutely beautiful, and legit made me go "wow" due to the imagery. Good stuff.

No, I was just looking for character names and picked that one.

And yeah - my mind kept interpreting that prompt not as “do not dive when the water is red” but as “the water is red when you do not dive” - so this happened.

I love this. I am glad you also found such a nice use for that prompt ! The empathy imagery is really well-done, and so is the surreal-ness of some of the scenes.

Is Sloan a reference to the character in Eragon ?

Written for the prompt "RED IS WATER THE WHEN DIVE NOT DO". This is… definitely not exactly how taniwha tend to be portrayed, but this one decided it was going to play by fairy-tale rules instead.
