What an interesting creature! Love how you place the worldbuilding on this piece, interweaving wanderer's accounts with information regarding these creatures. Very interesting entity, and an excellent story, the one you tell to bring them to life.

Personal ComboCon Reading Progress: #12

Some fun cool Library lore! I'm a big fan of these guys, brought to life by your writing and Dino's drawings, and can't wait to see them pop up in future stories. I also found a lot of enjoyment out of the testimonials sections, which added a ton to the way this piece breathes - keeps it exciting. I do want to echo Zip, it could use some more academic tone in some spots. I also really enjoyed the spots where you got scientific, giving it a scientific name, specifying height and length, etc and I'd love to see even more of that. One example I can think of is mentioning the stingers a bit earlier, describing how they work in that academic tone and letting the testimonials carry the more descriptive tone.

ALSO the word bibliological???? Goes so hard and I'm mad I didn't think of it myself lol

this piece is great fun, with art that adds a lot to the vibe as a field guide. love the worldbuilding too — excited to include shelfstalkers in something i write at some point! my one nitpick is that i feel the descriptive field guide sections could use a revision pass to make the tone and language more academic and less conversational. i think if you spiffed up the writing and presentation in those sections to be more formal it would really make the piece gel even better than it already does. great work! +1

I really liked this piece. Frankly, I'm a sucker for pieces framed as journals or guides. Even more so any piece that builds the Library's internal lore at the same time. Its an aspect that I feel the site could definitly use more of. +1

Absolutely wonderful, and doubly so for a first piece. I'm always a sucker for lore focused on the Library and the enigmatic Searing, and this does it perfectly. Shelfstalkers are charming little creatures. Also, Rounderpede cameo.

Truly appreciate Library worldbuilding. This doesn't make me want to live in WL as much as everything else, of course. You integration of searing lore into this piece is wonderful. High praise for a wonderful first piece, well-deserved.

I really liked this, and that was before Rounderpede reared his ugly head! It’s the kind of fun worldbuilding that manages to retain a narrative and atmosphere throughout, like the other Guides to the Shelves. It echoes that tone perfectly, and the prose sections do a lot to inject some character, flavor, and narrative into this — but even the sections just about the Shelfstalkers are brimming with voice. The art is also very nice and adds to the atmosphere wonderfully. If I had a complaint, it’d be that there are a couple grammar errors throughout, but nothing a fine-tooth comb can’t fix. Plus Searing lore!

Ah, Library worldbuilding. Lacking as of late, methinks. A wonderful addition! This is wonderfully delicate, like a sugar-coated pastry. Flaky and jam-packed (pun intended) with delicious filling. Well done! +1

Lovely little thing! Works extremely well within the Library system. A few notes, though, for SPaG and stuff:

they can only see movement with those big, orange eyes of theirs. || "of theirs" feels odd here
And then there’s moments that are just funny || "there are," not "there is"; also, missing punctuation at the end

Overall, as I said, lovely! A sweet biscuit with expensive jasmine tea and little emerald chunks broken off in the bottom of the cup. My favourite line:

There are a million and one ways to slide into trouble. Attentive eyes and inquisitive minds will be tempted by an army of backroads into the bowels of our oldest networks. Secret passages engraved in the walls. Narrow cracks between darkened shelves leading somewhere just beyond the eye. Winding spiral staircases tucked into corners that dip down to unknown chasms. These sectors are not for the faint of heart, but I make my daily route in such sibylline places. What can I say? Being a giant centipede has its disadvantages, and during the rush hours it’s far more appealing to take the roads less traveled by.

Just excellent. Well done!

I very much enjoy anything with pictures, especially stuff that adds to the Library ecosystem. Fixed some minor grammar and spelling mistakes, but I very much liked this little piece.

Hello! First written article posted on either of the sites, hurrah! At any rate, If it wasn’t clear, my prompts that I used were heat+ leftovers with the remnants of burnt bookshelves, etc. attracting the Shelfstalkers and book burning/ scorching being the primary reason for their existence in the library.

A special thanks to Dino--Draws for helping me with the art , CSS, and crit. I’d also like to thank Ember03 for the initial design ideas for the Shelfstalkers, and everyone who helped make up scientific names.
