upvoted on the strength of imagery and tone. that said, please use periods. i found myself growing exasperated trying to parse parts of this piece.

When I read your pieces, never am I more aware of such large breadths of lives that I have not lived. This piece is so intelligent, like genuinely, impressively Smart. You've pulled so much feeling out of this anecdote, which btw is one of my favorite things ever. I'm honored I played a part in inspiring you to write/post this one cause it's sooo good

Seriously,I loved the word choice and rhythm of the piece. The depression and sadness of it all comes across wonderfully. For how short it is it's remarkably tasty. Well done.

Inspired by a comment by Snapdragon133, and by Zarafa, the first giraffe to be seen in Europe since the 14th century. A gift from the Pasha of Egypt to Charles X of France in 1827, Zarafa would be taken from its native Sudan to the exotic grasslands of the Parisian Botanical Garden, where it would live, with broken legs and bent neck, assisted by a gigantic wooden frame to even stand for 18 years.
