We are so back Dukeheads. God. This was excellent. I missed this lizard bastard so, so much. And the story happening within Last Light? And the murder investigation? Working with cops? The chase scene? And that ending, God, that ending.

This is amazing. Genuinely amazing. Easy +1~

I am not the target audience for this; I find that Gonzo journalism is about 85% Hunter Thompson doing his Hunter Thompson schtick, and about 15% insight, empathy, truth, and pathos. I get that the latter can't necessarily exist without the former, but I don't like the ratio.

So consider it high praise that I upvoted this work in a style that I dislike, in a canon I have never read. The action scenes were compelling, the background details were intriguing without being intrusive, and it nailed the ratio in a better way than I think that many Gonzo-esque pieces do. Inventive, fun, and well-written. +1

Ohhhhhh my god. Ohhhhhhhhhhh my god. Y'all I'm obsessed with this gift y'all. It's so good. I've been trying to draft my comment for like three days it's that good. It is jam packed with all the stuff I love about Duke Gathers AND Last Light, all while being absolutely hilarious and genuine in the right places. By the time I got the gift, I had forgotten I had specified to use one of the individuals I outlined in my piece on the Nihl, so it was a hype surprise to see Loriel make an appearance too!

It's practically impossible to choose a favorite moment (although the Margaret paragraph at the end is pretty up there). A million times thank you, ch00!

P.S. the amount of times you made me read the word "cloaca" without getting upset should be studied

My Yuletide gift for Snapdragon133, based on the prompts:

Create a story involving the Planasthai Press (there's plenty of established characters you could use, like Duke Gathers).

Create a story set in the Last Light collection, featuring one or more of the villainous individuals described in my Last Light story.

Create a story with a tag combination that has never existed on the site before (crime/apocalyptic; last-light/planasthai; probably others).

It is also, counting the section headings, exactly 6969 words. It is also also an extended riff on the SCP wiki tale Duke 'till Dawn, mainly the section headings, which correspond to Dr. Kondraki's backup plans.

With this I have now written gonzo journalism for two of the three Serpentine Sorting System canons. Vitalis is next, I guess. We'll see what I do with it. Merry Yuletide, everyone.
