I like the idea of a dragon-city, and it fits the prompt pretty much perfectly. I'm curious as to what some of the other aspects of this world are like.

Nitpicking, but you only need 'shift' or 'change'.

Feexed.

The way I envisioned it, and what you'll hopefully see if I write more in this world, is basically a space-opera style setting fueled entirely by magic instead of technology.

Also, belated, but thanks to anqxyr, Athena Grey, and Randomini for looking at this and giving advice.

Yeah, I'm definitely reminded of a space opera. Which is to say some bits of Halo here and there.

Apart from typos and the grammar being meh IMO, this was a good read! I would read more from this universe, because it seems like a pretty good universe.

The ending, though…it's fitting for a WL story, even if it's a little unsatisfying after all that buildup. I can see if you ran with it under time constraints, and I'd probably do the same. But, (again IMO) it probably would have been a little better for some relatively different thing to happen. Iunno.

Couple things that occurred to me in hindsight:

I suppose enough information was leaked that everyone else knows the Fire test is at the very least utterly outrageously dangerous. That's the only way I can think of everyone being against the protagonist doing it.

The Fire test being so outrageous would work better if: all the other final tests were suitably outrageous, or some explanation was given as to why the academy is so brutal.

You were probably right about this being sub-par compared to the rest of the WL, but it still merits an upboat.

Wow. Just wow. The name didn't hit me until the very end. And then wow. It takes a damn courageous writer to forego the happy ending.
