The Pilgrims of Tarloan

So, Pilgrims of Tarloan is an anthology of haibun (Japanese literary form that alternates between poetic prose and haiku) written by people on sacred pilgrimages through another world. The Library's copy is a translation of the original manuscript by an early 20th-century scholar and the original has yet to be recovered or appear (as far as anyone knows) in the library itself.

The "Librarian's Note" off to the right acts as context and potential synopsis if this interests anyone as its own book, so it probably won't be there in any final iteration.

Highly evocative imagery. The Librarian's Note says that there's no bestiary for the creatures described, but have you considered writing along those lines? I feel like this could benefit from more exposition or possibly pictures to help us get a handle on all the unfamiliar terms, but on the other hand the cryptic nature of the references does a good job of hinting at a larger world waiting to be discovered.

Well, my reason behind leaving it vague was to give the aberrance a nonchalant magic realism treatment and letting people's minds go wild. I added some footnotes in certain places where I thought it might be too ambiguous to understand without context.

That being said, I have thought about putting together some of the images as sumi-e illustrations, since that style would give everyone some context but still could be vague and impressionistic enough to let the mind wander.

Thanks for reading and thanks for your input! I'm glad it had the effect I wanted and I'll do some groundwork on a bestiary-type piece or at least some illustrations.
