So this is what I wrote for the 2021 Scavenger Hunt. I woke up like 3 hours after the theme announcement, read it, started thinking really fast, and after like 3 seconds I was left with "What if cosmic horror… but ants". I hope it worked, I hope you enjoyed it, and if you're not sure how it corresponds to the "Forgotten Cities" theme — just think of an ant nest as a city. 🐜🐜🐜

Special thanks to Rounderhouse and Thick Soup for proofreading and critique, and to the Wikipedia pages on ants and cordyceps-type fungi and these videos for being there when I needed them the most (to research zombie ants)

Overall I really liked the concept and plot however at points some sentences felt jarring when next to each other and dampened the fluidity of the story. But those were few and far between.

Thank you! That's probably because I'm not a native English speaker, but I will of course try to notice such things in my further writing. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Wow, I think this is the most "out of the box" entry I've read so far. My only complaint would be that there are way too many words starting with capittal letters. I understand why you used them, but it kinda pollutes the text a little bit. Still an upvote for sure tho!!

Thank you! I capitalized every "We", because it's used instead of "I" and I thought it was a neat move; every other capitalization is a sort of proper name, so I don't know how else could I do this, tbh. Still, I'm really glad you enjoyed it!

This is such a creative interpretation of the prompt, and it's an awesome entry at that. I got chills at the end, it was very well done

Thank you so much! It was actually my first attempt of writing horror ever, so I'm glad that I succeeded :D
EDIT: Okay, maybe not the First Ever, but a first one that I actually meant to be scary or unnerving :P

Love this piece. The way it plays with 'We' and 'They' is such an interesting way to create a clear division for these fungi-infected ants, and just, the whole lore and ambience of the article is excellent. Good stuff.
