As I said in critique, the best part of this is how mild this guy's reaction is. The creep factor of the town is rather standard (though improved from the first draft to be certain), but the real selling point for me is just this guy going in, being like :/ and waltzing out without much pomp and circumstance to it. You think he's coming in as an outsider to this situation, but then you remember that he, you know, grew up here. And maybe this isn't such a strange way to find his town upon revisiting.
And maybe the fact that it's not says something about him, the local who moved away, going back into the big world.
