I do love me some high-octane thrills, and the Weird flavor in this just makes it all that much better.

I loved the thrills in this. At the end that line from Gladiator came to my head "Are you not entertained!" Great and unique island added here too.

One small typo was where you said this:
"Cameras flashed as they careened past cheering spectators, still locked in a tie for first with Horizon in second and the tank accelerating in third."
Technically the Horizon is in third place and the tank is in fourth because, even if the leaders are tied for first, they're both still ahead of the Horizon and the tank.

Yeah, my thoughts there were that it was more clear that way even if it was technically wrong. I think in some races they do rank ties that way though, with the next person coming in the next place.

That's certainly one of the best pieces of Last Light.

I salute your skill to instill thrill in your story and not make it feel like an overshot! You have a talent for colorful imagery, my favorite being "Speed was bleeding from the contact with the concrete". I always love to see how basic things can be reimagined through new ways of describing them.

The only thing that irritated me a bit was this Prince intervening in the race, which was a bit random. And I don't like these skyscraper settings much, but that's a question of personal taste.

I hope you'll contribute to this canon again :D
