On an anniversary, a story

One year ago today, I put down the creature closest to my heart: my beloved Kira. With this story, I pay tribute to thirteen years of love most pure, of kindness and companionship. May we meet again in Mictlán, my precious girl. May my life honor your own.

Sobbing while reading this with my elderly cat whom I may not see next year by my side. You put all of this so beautifully. I love the themes of gold and waiting for family to arrive. The emotions are strong and the tears are strong too. What a gorgeous work, Din.

Only two paragraphs in and I'm already sobbing. Last December my dog had to be put down; when the dreaded day came I spent most of my time staying by her side, until late afternoon when my parents had to take her away. When they walked back through the door that night, they didn't say a word but the message was clear, and that was the hardest I'd ever cried in years. This story made me cry just as hard, but without the pain. An absolutely beautiful work.

When I first read this piece well over a year ago (And never voted/commented on it, oops) I couldn't help but feel a certain tinge of dread, a realization of the mortality of my own pet. And yet, even then, there was a reassuring sense of comfort and gratitude that this piece transmits that just never left me. Today, I come back to it, and I feel embraced by this same sense of comfort, but it's much more defined; I get it now, is basically what I'm saying.

This is a beautiful tribute to Kira, and a gorgeous piece of writing overall. +1
