I'd like to start off by thanking PapaGelatin does not match any existing user name for their extremely helpful crit.
I'd also like to thank the folks on the SCP official discord for being supportive and directing me to Wanderer's Library when I initially wrote my first draft of this, not knowing what I wanted to do with it.

This is my first real creative writing in about three years, and it's a very personal piece to me. Most of the things described in this story are things that have actually happened to me, even the stuff that's stated outright to be false, and I really wanted to use this piece to express the disjointed, uncomfortable feelings I have living in the Virginia suburbs. I had a lot of fun writing this, and I really hope you all enjoy it.

I really liked reading this! You really encapsulated a certain feeling of being disconnected from the world around you, and that specific feeling really resonated with me.

In all seriousness though, this was delicious. Holy hell, it was delicious. Tastes like stewed mushrooms and rosemary and bitter chalk runny with rose oil skimmed from the deluge of stormwater coming out through meter-wide concrete drainpipes that spill from the abbeys of the city into the tepid embrace of the coastal sea. I adored this character, and love how you discussed the monstrosity that is basic things like unwalkability in suburbia and police existing to soothe WEIRD (the acronym) fears. All the while conveying your own experiences in sweet tangy prose. The enby flag is beautiful, and I am glad for the escape.

I actually had to look up what WEIRD meant since I've never heard of it, but yeah my experiences with the police have been pretty negative. My own neighborhood is walkable, but once you get to the area on the edge of the neighborhood it just ends in nothing but roads without sidewalks. This makes it impossible for people who end up on the street in the suburbs to get to a homeless shelter, or even to get to anywhere outside the suburbs in a reasonable timeframe. The incident I describe here was the first time I got kicked out of my home, and the escape at the end was something I added in after struggling to come up with a satisfying ending. My original ending had the character eaten alive by cicadas! I really appreciate the comments I've been getting on this piece, it really means a lot to me and I'm really happy you and others have enjoyed it.

Fascinating, and seemingly autobiographical. I love the way this meanders. I love the presented view of being trapped. I love the twang of the prose, like the strum of a banjo. I love the way you talk about writing.
Truly a great piece, wonderful work.

I'm late to commenting on this, but I just wanted to let it be known how much I love this piece. I'm not a master of prose like some here, I can't describe my feelings, but this one hit home. Nail on the head. Bullseye. Hit where it hurts. Other such phrases from the cultural zeitgeist.

Yada yada, +1, etc. etc., so on and for forth!
