I was recently threatened with undergoing trepanning if I didn't read this. Of course, I had plans to read it already, but I was certainly hastened by the promise of retribution.
It's interesting, growing up I never got into the stories of animals with their own fantasy-esq worlds, whether they exist underneath our noses or independently of our world. Warriors, Guardians of Ga'Hoole, Redwall, Survivors, and, most notably, The Tale of Despereaux. The happenings of creatures in their worlds just didn't quite captivate me. I'd opt instead to read Collins, Pseudonymous Bosch, MacHale, and the like. I say all of this because it's suddenly hitting me that I've come full circle and, despite the work my younger self put in, I find myself drawn into the world of fantasy animals and damn it if I'm not curious about what'll happen next. Sorry younger me, I've gotta find out more about this rat dude and his nail sword.
