I absolutely adore this story, Clarity is a really neat character with a strong voice. The turmoil over preferring the angels or the darkness, how that shifts as time goes on. I'm fascinated by what the meaning behind this could be. So, so cool. Is this story actually happening? Or is it a niche radio show? To me, this reads somewhat like a cycle of abuse and/or a desire to get away from society?? Or at least a certain perspective of society. At first there's comfort in the angels, the night light and street lights, but then they betray you and drop you into the darkness, perhaps the unknown (what happens when this relationship ends, what will life be like outside of this path?), but you find out the darkness isn't so bad, that you could possibly thrive in it, but quickly you feel the draw back to the relationship/society, getting water from the gentle angel glow of the vending machine. Now you body rejects it, it's seen what could be and rejects what is. It recognizes that it's good, it feels good to be in the light, but maybe it's better to strive for new things. There's a distinction made between the angels in the sky (stars/moon/lightning in a bottle) and the angels of the earth as well, I think the stranger made the mistake of conflating the two as well. The differences in the two lightning in a bottle poems are stark, what's the difference between help and hurt in this context? Maybe the stars/moon represent a different path for your life/a new relationship that you could travel towards in the future. The future can't help you in the moment, it's completely detached but it also can't hurt you. Maybe I'm wrong then in thinking the darkness is a the end point, maybe it's more of an in-between that the Midnight Ride Radio travels through. At the end our stranger leaves the lights of earth behind for the lights in the sky. Maybe when they get there, there'll be a completely different night sky above them
Apologies for the large amount of rambling, this story just really pulled me in and made me want to figure out what's going on. I'd love to see Clarity have their own hub page one day, I'd love to write a story from the annals Midnight Ride Radio
I think I will get smooth, thanks Clarity.
