some musings. coldposted — though thank you to my friend HarryBlank for letting me work through and articulate these thoughts yesterday.
Sobering. Experienced like a cold shower — like a philosophical work, but one that strips down the curtains and intellectualizations we so often hang to make ourselves feel smarter and distance ourselves from the horror. I won't drape this comment in my usual banana leaves for fermentation, as this work would refuse the pillowy softness that belies needles held inside the casing.
This work is sharp, cold, and — rarely do I see this, and hopeful I am from finding it here — still having the energy to fight, to think, to work forwards and speak on atrocities despite having no power and existing in a world where no matter the beauty or truth of a statement it will not be heard unless you dress in a five thousand USD suit and call yourself Mr. and be a representative mouth of something pretending at being indomitable. This work lives on and develops itself despite everything in the world shouting at an individual to fall to a standstill and give up hope because the world says there is nothing we can do but wallow in the history we perpetuate until we too turn to dust that feeds the grease of tanks.
I said this wouldn't be high prose. Perhaps I lied. You impassion me, Rounder, and I am glad that you are here. Thank you for sharing this with us.
I hope for the future. I do not know what for.

What is life if not the contrast between what has been and what will become?
Styg perfectly captures my thoughts, and your piece perfectly captures how I feel every day I wake up to this world. I wish you well in our collective journey, Rounder, and hope to one day stand with you in a world free of this evil. I hope. I hope against it all.
I watch the yonder hills
See foodwrenches toil in dust
Let their cacophonous calls
Rend our bodies to rust
I love how relevant this is. People too often shy away from current topics, and moreso shy away from giving their thoughts. I admire your earnest approach here though, not shying away from your opinions. I do not personally think this is a piece about the Israel-Palestine conflict. It is more a reflection on the nature of evil, using the lens of the current war. I appreciate how honest it is. Perhaps it is a bit heavy handed in this lens, but it's certainly evocative so I can't complain. Overall this is really really quite good. +1 +1 +1
Fires rage just below the surface of the ice.
I used one of those websites that help you easily contact your representatives, to decry them of the horrors they are supporting. I didn't expect a response, but I got one from one of them. The first line was "Thank you for reaching out regarding animal welfare."
I have to believe they used some random bot that misread my email about Palestinians undergoing a genocide somehow and spat out a pre-made email about the rights of animals, but it was such an on-the-nose ridiculous dehumanizing response I couldn't help but scream out in shock (literally). This is an unrelated tangent to your writing, but it made me think of it. Thank you for sharing this with us Rounder
