Quite good! I was immediately struck by the strong character design of Citlali. She felt very alive, very lived in if that makes sense. Clown is right, the massive pile of antlion corpses IS really cool. It feels like you had this image in your mind that you just had to get us there - I think that mindset benefited the story because it was really well built-up to and it hit really hard, but I also think there were some negative impacts because there wasn't a ton of imagery or physicality before that moment. Additionally, I did think some dialogue choices were overly verbose for someone like the adventurer.

My favorite part of the piece tho is the well done character of Ichel. The ways these characters reflect their class is natural, especially with the Priestess. Almost everything she says sounds like an attempt to find a moral to the story or display her unattached and somewhat unfeeling viewpoint (which is all often a veneer here). It made her relenting to Citlali at the end that much more impactful. There is a clear power imbalance, so it felt pretty meaningful that Ichel respected her wishes like that. I think I've gotta go read more about these ants now!

I don't have anything really in-depth to say, but I found this a very evocative story and enjoyed it. As others have mentioned, the class dynamics between the different castes were fun to see when reading.

the tzic were always destined to be close to my heart and i love this interpretation. i think that snap is right in that the characterization is very strong. i have found that this is a strength of yours (in wind-among-reeds, dominic legrande, etc) where you really inhabit the minds of your characters and then open them for us to likewise inhabit. really enjoyable read and an easy +1
