Welcome Back to Larkan

It's been a while since I've written for the site, but I've had a growing need to complete the little pitstop in a town that trades secrets of currency and knows to fear mermaids.

I'll admit, this is a remix of an older story I wrote for the site that I couldn't bare to delete because of the nice comments on it. So this is a new timeline created when the Angler Fish ate God or something. If I need to speak with the mods about this let me know.

at times, this piece certainly creates the impression of an interesting world, but it doesn't work for me on the whole. the prose could do with a lot of polishing and sharpening, and the narrative conceals so much in an apparent attempt to create intrigue that i'm left wondering why i should care. why is this mirror so important to emilia? why does gording have a piece of it? who is the lady who visits her at the end, and what are these other forces that the narration makes reference to? in a story with stronger prose and character work, i might be able to deal with so many boxes going unopened, but the moment-to-moment writing doesn't do enough to pull me in.
