I was enjoying the atmosphere of this piece, the descriptions of everyday life, just the general vibe of the thing, and then it hit me with the trail scene in the last act. And that was great. Really, truly great, nuanced and twisty and thought-provoking.
Your prose is very good and I can see what I know for sure will continue to grow into an original and vivid style shining through this piece like light. The dialogue in the trail had me gripped and the twists and the irritation I felt at how absurd it all was really reminded me of the trail in the original Planet of the Apes, which is a very good thing! I'd call this "criminally underrated" but frankly you don't need more upvotes. The piece bangs and you have a fan in me. Keep writing. I want to see you make other things.
