Mann's answers are from an IRC chat. My answers are partially from there, too. Questions are by myself, Mr_Wilt, and Roget. Canonically, the Serpent's Hand is responsible for liberating certain SCP's from the Foundation. I was wondering if cross wiki exchanges of that nature are able and allowed to take place, specifically for the purpose of preventing harm to innocent, sentient SCP's? With author permissions, of course.
Of the nature I described? Because if I got my head screwed on right, the story I'd want to write would be about the liberation of a certain SCP from Jailer hands (the now comatose Witch Child, 239) before they can hurt her more than they already have.
Of course, that's a bit of a drastic action, so I want to make absolutely sure it wouldn't be stepping on anybody's toes to do so, and see if said liberation would be considered canon to the wiki's so she would be safe (I over empathize with children in danger, sorry…).
But if they DON'T do it, won't that result in some kind of end-of-the-world scenario?
The Jailors are incompetent, no more fit to take care of a child than a sculpture. And we've all seen how well they take care of the Sculpture.
There wouldn't have been an issue in the first place if they had taken the time to understand the mind of a child, rather than seeing her as a monster to be put in a cage.
But if she's not contained, the creature inside her will cause an XK-end-of-the-world scenario.
I don't think you're thinking of the same SCP as I am. I'm talking about SCP-239, the "Witch Child". She's just a reality bender.
Anyway, now I just have to figure out how a character would reasonably infiltrate a foundation compound without getting massacred. Anyone know how difficult it is for people in the Library to contact L.S.? The Cap of Neglect would come in handy for my story…
Depends. I've never seen the Foundation as actually having very advanced defenses against metaphysical beings—as far as I've ever seen them, they're too paranoid of such things. That being said, just because you can easily get into there doesn't mean you'll get out. Your best bet would be to use some sort of scrying and some sort of teleportation that the SCP Foundation doesn't have a defense against.
L. S. isn't my character, but I doubt he'd be really easy to contact.
However. It should be noted that SCP-239 is locked up for an extremely good reason. Her fears, her biases, all become real. If she is afraid of a monster under the bed, it will exist, and it will quite possibly kill someone. If she believes that someone is evil, they will be mind-raped into that position. If she thinks that you're mean, you're mean. If she thinks you're nice, you're nice. Convince her that <insert politician here> is an evil nasty man or woman, and you turn them into a Hitler parody.
The problem is that she isn't just a reality bender, she's a reality bender who doesn't have to will things to make them happen. Even an ordinary reality bender is dangerous enough. She is so incredibly dangerous that other members of the Hand would very likely try to either remove her abilities or render her unable in some manner to be a threat. That would not necessarily be a pleasant process for her.
Oh don't worry, I have my character's escape plan covered, it's pretty easy once he wakes up Sigurrós.
Anyway, your concerns, while appreciated, are unnecessary, because I'm certain that isn't how her power works. Any idle thought of hers does not become reality, she has to focus on it to make it happen. For certain, she doesn't know she's making it happen when she does, but in each documented case of her changing something it was because she focused on it or worried intensely about it. They convinced her that she was a witch, but that didn't become reality, did it?
It's like I said before, the foundation didn't take the time to understand her and her power, rather than seeing her as a monster, which is why they screwed up. The only reason the characters over at the foundation were so scared of her is because they assumed the worst of her, that if she found out what she could really do, she would automatically turn evil. I like to think better of people, especially children.
No, that's what I was talking about too. She was worrying intensely about how she thought he was going to kill her, and her focus on that became the reality. That's why I think that's how her power works, since she was really focused on that and it happened, yet when she was told she was a witch, she just took it for granted and it didn't really come to pass.
But still, I guess you're right, it works however I think it does for the purpose of the story. I just like to make sure my writings are as accurate to canon as possible. Which is why I even started this whole conversation, since I don't want to use the Cap of Neglect if it would be impossible for someone to get L.S. to loan it to them…
