I'm not so much a fan of the SCP this is in direct relation to (the Elrich reference seemed forced, out of place with the rest of the article, and had the life choked out of it by the constraints of the SCP format). But that's irrelevant because this, here, is an entirely different beast that I happen to enjoy immensely. It's a short, sweet piece, and the way it's told is gorgeous.
"The flashing of light could be seen for many miles when they fell, and we found ourselves suffering a worse fate than our tormentors."
I also quite like this theme: What it takes to avenge those you have lost; whether justice will swing in your favour after you commit an even more considerable wrongness for the "greater good"/the good of your people. I can't help but think it feels like a common narrative, but I also can't point to any other articles like it, nor can I deny that it's engaging to me as a reader.
Overall, good stuff.
