This is actually the first thing I wrote for the Library, but due to my superior procrastination skills I only posted it after I posted my first two articles. This was a challenge issued to be by Bunton(write a story where a single giraffe dies), who along with Vivax, Punkcat, Ingramm and dear_arch in the chat helped me revise the thing. Thanks to you all.

Update: I no longer quite like this story myself. I suppose it's down to time - I've improved a lot in my view and I don't think I wouldn't have written it this way now. I'd likely set it from the African's POV, dispensed with the trickster stuff and/or possibly set it in an alternate or fictional universe. Maybe the challenge constrained me too much? Still, it'll stay as my first piece of writing for the site.

Yeah, I'm honestly kind of embarrassed by this one now. It's still staying up as my first, but I feel like should just completely rewrite it at some point.

I like this one. It's an interesting history to tell; despite the general passiveness of it, it was entertaining from beginning to end. The sparkles of myth amid the otherwise normal historical piece were quite interesting. Maybe it needed a tad stronger of a punchline, but it still is really good.
