Have you ever lost something? Everyone has at one point. But how many times have you lost something, and truly never found it again? Maybe you’ve even given up hope on trying to find this object of yours again. It can be a fairly discouraging feeling, knowing that this thing just *has* to be somewhere out there still, right? It has to be.
Or perhaps this object wasn’t actually yours. Maybe it was a story you read, a game you played, a video you watched, or a song you listened to. Whatever it was, it has also been lost. By god it was there at one point, yet somewhere along the line it simply just vanished. Not because it lost popularity, or maybe— if possible— had just been discontinued, it truly was just gone. Almost nonexistent, save for a few memories or remnants. Still, though, this just doesn’t seem… right.
You may doubt it’s possible for something to be lost forever. Which you do stand correct in that regard. But where exactly do these things go? What happens to a story when no one reads it again? What happens to a song when someone listens to it for the last time? Where exactly do all these episodes go when they’re forgotten? Or what happens even when we still keep some remnants of these, and not only the memories? Nothing can truly disappear forever, that is for sure by now. But if this is the case, just what exactly happens? But perhaps most importantly, can they be brought back?
Well, for one thing, they go down here. This, my friends, is what I call the Lost & Found of the Universe. This is the resting place of everything you’ve lost forever. At least, it may seem like forever. Because even down in this dark, gloomy part of the Universe, things can be brought back. This is a resting place, but not a final one. This is oftentimes different from a graveyard, because again, these things are never truly lost forever. This is exactly why you can still bring them back. Of course, it may take an insurmountable amount of effort, and anywhere from a few years to what could feel like forever. But if you try, you can draw things back out. You can pull them back out of these murky depths, and back into the light. No longer lost, perhaps now destined to be remembered for far longer than it first was.
But of course, the majority of this all goes on behind the scenes. Our dark corner down here does more than hide away all the things you’ve lost; it also continues to keep it from sight until it has truly been revealed. Like casting a fishing rod into the murky waters, it can sometimes be hard to tell just where the hook is. Only once you have reeled it in and revealed what you have caught does it become visible once more. This is just the case here. Many times do people grow closer to finding these lost things, yet it will only appear as this sudden reveal once it is discovered again. Even if you are unable to see it, be careful not to lose the hook. You can always cast another, but the effort would have to repeat all over again. Don’t lose the hook, and don’t ever stop reeling it in. No matter how long it seems to take, no matter how slow and difficult your progress is, it will be over with eventually. Then, of course, you can look back at your work. Your recovery of something that was once lost.
Such a recovery would be so very relieving. Confirmation that your memories were correct, that you could achieve the seemingly impossible, and that you could return something from even the darkest areas of the Universe, even if you couldn’t exactly see that part. But there is a way to ensure that you may not have to go through with this again. The end was always relieving, but everything could be prevented in the first place, with one simple method. That is, to not let anything slip through your fingers like sand. No matter how familiar something is today, it could be lost at any moment. But us, all of us, can prevent this. Keep logs of whatever you wish to hold onto, keep spare copies, and make every effort to not let these things disappear. It is not something you can do alone.
And even if something is missed, never forget that you can always get it back. So keep going, and keep trying. Everything you help save is like preserving one tiny little world. It might not mean much to you now, but someone in the future may just be forever thankful for your help. Until we disappear ourselves, we must hold onto everything else. And hopefully one day, nothing will be lost, nor shall anything be lost again.
You know what to do now, then. So much is around you, why not hold onto it as well? Just don’t stare into this darkness for too long. Sometimes it may be discouraging, as well.
